Military Relationships:

The  funny thing about being in a military relationship is that to most people it doesn’t make sense, to those who have done it/are doing it well it goes together perfectly. They’re unorthodox relationships but for a military relationship they’re usually right on point. You don’t get to see each other often and you spend a lot of nights alone, you go days, weeks, months, and sometimes years without seeing them. You can’t really expect things and you can forget making plans that will work out 100% because most of the time you’ll end up changing dates or rescheduling…you learn to bend with what the military gives you, you become professional “wingers”.  When you do get to make “plans” you plan around the Marines, Army, Airforce, Navy etc. Birthdays and Holidays are missed and other events too. You have to work really hard at it every single moment. It never gets easier you just get used to it. You constantly have to remind yourself that you may be one day further from the last time you saw them but you’re also one day closer to the next time you see them. It changes you and shapes you in ways you never imagined but the real amazing part is that it’s worth it and if someone is worth going through all that then that might be something incredible. Because the moments you spend together are so amazing that the moments spent apart are worth it. Phone calls, texts, letters, Skype dates fill your memories and the homecomings well those are the very best moments of our lives and having a life full of those makes me feel lucky.
